Biography:

White Oak Baptist Church (Carpenter, Miss.)

White Oak Baptist Church was located in the unincorporated community of Carpenter in Copiah County, Mississippi, about seven miles from Utica. White Oak Baptist Church’s first church building was built in 1903; however, the congregation existed before its construction. The sanctuary was constructed to convince a doctor to move to Carpenter and provide services in the community; the doctor had informed them he would only move there if a church building was built. The building featured a rose-type window, that is also typical of the late federal style of architecture. Several water-oak trees, each one 15 feet in circumference, surrounded the church. Thereafter, White Oak Baptist Church was one of the landmarks of the town until the 1960s when it was demolished due to weather damage. White Oak Cemetery is all that remains of the church and its congregation in Copiah County.
