Series 1013: Scrapbooks Underwood (Dr. Felix J.). 1912-1958.

     Scrapbooks commemorating activities and highlights of Dr. Underwoods life and career as State Health Officer (1924-1958). The following is a brief description of the contents of each scrapbook:

Boxes 9834 and 9836

Scrapbooks with memorabilia (congratulatory letters and telegrams as well as newspaper articles) pertaining to Dr. Underwood as recipient of the prestigious national Lasker Award in 1953 presented by the American Public Health Association.

Box 9838

Scrapbook (makeshift) with news clippings of articles by Dr. Underwood, particularly Health Talks, written for local newspapers when Dr. Underwood was County Health Officer for Monroe Co. (articles dated approximately 1915-1917). Scrapbook has been made using a painting and drawing book entitled Old Glory (clippings have been glued over pages colored with crayons).

Box 15268

Scrapbook with memorabilia (congratulatory letters and telegrams, photos, programs, announcements) pertaining to a grand appreciation dinner held in Dr. Underwoods honor on June 23, 1958.

Boxes 19539, 19540 and 19541

3 oversized scrapbooks of biographical and professional materials which appear to continue one to the next, with some overlapping dates. Primarily the scrapbooks contain newspaper clippings, but there is quite a lot of memorabilia included among the clippings (photographs, letters of thanks and congratulations, birthday and Christmas cards, activities brochures and programs, and other such items). Generally the scrapbooks focus on Dr. Underwoods career from his first years as a young doctor, through his increasing involvement in local, state, and national health activities. - A receipt for 1 calf bull in payment for medical services
- Monroe Co. health activity summaries (Dr. Underwood as Director)

 - A pamphlet dated March 1945 with a very complete outline of Underwoods biographical and professional information

 - Many brochures and programs from health organizations throughout the country related to Dr. Underwoods numerous speaking engagements and participation in committees and boards.
