      Applications for grant funds available under the African-American Heritage Grant Program, which provides money for “the acquisition, preservation, restoration, develop-ment, interpretation, and accomodation of sites, properties, events, or eras significant to African-American history in Mississippi” (Chapter 487, Section 3, General Laws of Mississippi 2000). To be eligible for funding, a prospective site must have been, or have been in the process of becoming, a “Mississippi Landmark” as designated by the Department of Archives and History. Included in the applications are documents such as letters of endorsement, resumes of project personnel, project descriptions, funding estimates, and photographs. Comments written by Department Director Elbert R. Hilliard, who reviewed the applications, are often found attached.
