Journal and correspondence of archaeologist Moreau B. Chambers, covering the period 1932-1939 when he worked for the Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH). Both the original handwritten journal and a copy of it are included in the series. The journal entries give detailed descriptions of archaeological surveys and excavations conducted by the Mississippi Archaeological Survey. The correspondence consists of weekly progress reports from the field to MDAH Director Dunbar Rowland, and letters exchanged with other archaeologists and interested parties.
This series should be used in conjunction with other Mississippi Archaeological Survey records for this period, located in Series 1311 (RG 31/SG 4), Series 1331 (RG 31/SG 4), and Series 2020 (RG 73).
ACCESS NOTE In accordance with the Antiquities Law of Mississippi (Miss. Code 1972 Annotated, Title 39, Chapter 7, Section 41), access to records in this series is limited.
