Series 1331: Archaeological Survey Photographs. 1925-1938; undated.
Dept. of Archives and History (RG 31). Historic Preservation (SG 4).

Archaeological photographs and negatives produced by Mississippi Department of Archives and History (MDAH) archaeologists in the 1920s and 1930s, with a few images dating from 1962. The images consist primarily of survey and excavation sites located in Mississippi by MDAH archaeologist Moreau B. Chambers, with David and James Ford and Slater R. Gordon. There are also photographs of the 1925 collaborative work in Mississippi of the Smithsonian’s Henry B. Collins and MDAH’s Hermes H. Knoblock. The 1962 photographs are of Robert S. Neitzel’s Fatherland Site excavation in Adams County.

The photographs and negatives are boxed separately and are foldered primarily by county. Some of the photographs contained identifying notations; others were tentatively identified by the archivist using the field notes for the various excavations. Please see the Official Records Photograph Finding Aid for a detailed list of photographs and negatives in this series.
