Documentation of Mississippi's participation in the 1974 Festival of American Folklife, which was held on the National Mall in Washington, D.C. Mississippi was the featured state that year. Records include groundwork and planning documents, correspondence, information on Mississippi participants, brochures and press kits, and audiovisual materials. Among the audiovisual materials are reel-to-reel sound recordings of Mississippi musicians at the festival, two 16 mm. color films, a thirty-minute ETV documentary about the festival ("Mississippi on the Mall") on a U-matic broadcast-quality videocassette, and audio cassette recordings of interviews with Mississippi musicians and craftspeople made by Smithsonian Institution field workers. Indexes to the festival performances and the field work tapes, as well as a code key to the log of taped performances, may be found in Box 5023.

Performance sound recordings, spots on audio reel, the U-matic video cassette, and the 16 mm. films are not available to the public in their current formats. Arrangements must be made with an Image and Sound archivist for duplication of these materials before they may be heard or viewed.
