      Maps prepared or collected by the State Planning Commission. Most were used for the various state documents the Commission published. All maps are stored in Box #29432 with the exception of those marked with three asterisks (***).

  • Reforestation Areas in Mississippi, 1936. States that twenty percent of farms in the state “are submarginal and should be replaced by forests, grazing, recreation and wild life.” Shows these reforestation areas and county boundaries.
  • Drainage Basins of Mississippi, 1937. Shows major rivers and county boundaries.
  • Hypsometric Divisions of Mississippi, 1937. A topographic map showing major elevation outlines, cities and rivers.
  • Geologic Map of Mississippi, 1937. Shows geological formations/soil types.
  • [Geologic cross sections], ca. 1937. Three illustrations of geologic cross sections at different areas of the state.
  • Exhibit Map showing Territory Served by Memphis Natural Gas Co. Pipeline System, ca. 1936. Blueprint map of pipeline route through northwest Mississippi, west Tennessee, and part of Louisiana and Arkansas. With letter of transmittal.
  • Mississippi Planning Commission Project, 1936. Blueprint map of coastal area of Mississippi, showing towns, rivers and streams, railroads, and county boundaries. Apparently a “blank” map to be used for any appropriate project.
  • State Charity Hospitals and Private Hospitals Receiving State Aid in Mississippi, 1937. Shows location of such hospitals and identifies them as private or charity institutions.
  • Map of City of Pascagoula Miss., 1939. Negative photostat; shows different zoning districts of the city.
  • Mississippi’s Recreational Facilities, ca. 1940. Printed maps of the state showing locations of recreational areas such as golf courses, state parks, lakes, etc. There are two versions of this map. One version is a two-color, two-sided promotional brochure with the state map on one side and photographs, a calendar of tourist events, and other tourist information on the other side. The other version of this item (for which there ae two copies) is apparently a proof for this map, as it is one-sided and printed in black & white only. The map was prepared by the Planning Commission, and the tourist brochure in which it was printed was distributed by the Advertising Commission.
  • Rural Electrification in the United States 1935, 1937. Map of United States that shows the percentage of farms in each state receiving central station electricity.
  • Land Battles and Routes, War Between the States, n.d. Map of Mississippi with Civil War battle sites and battle routes marked. Two copies; one positive photostat and one negative photostat.
  • Mississippi’s Strategic Accessibility, ca. 1937. Map of United States illustrating Mississippi’s accessibility to the populations of surrounding states, based on figures from the 1930 federal census.
  • Mississippi’s Schools, 1938. Shows locations of accredited 4-year schools, public and private junior colleges, and senior colleges, all differentiated as to whether “White” or “Negro.”
  • Early Indian and Spanish Trails, 1940. Map of Mississippi that shows different historical routes in the state. Despite the title, more than just Indian and Spanish trails are shown. For example, Jackson’s Military Road is also depicted.***
  • Migration of Mississippi Population as to Geographic Regions, ca. 1936. Map of United States showing net loss to Mississippi’s population due to migration, based on figures from the 1930 federal census. The figures are broken down by U.S. geographical region, and include the number of individuals migrating to the state as well.***
  • Lee County General Road System, n.d. Shows roads in Lee County as solid lines and dotted lines (unidentified as to name or number) and major towns.***
  • State of Mississippi Showing Numbers and Locations of Drainage Districts, 1939. State map with drainage districts delineated; map includes a list of counties with number of drainage districts in each.***
  • Neshoba County maps and graphics, 1939-1940. Five maps and graphics concerning Neshoba County: (1) map showing types and locations of agricultural processing plants in county; ca. 1940; (2) map showing types and locations of white schools in county; ca. 1940; (3) map showing major highways and railroads in county, ca. 1940; (4) beat map showing drainage districts in county; ca. 1940, and (5) pie chart showing land use in county as of 1934 (chart itself dates from ca. 1939).***
