Series 1610: Photographs. 1938-1963.
Economic and Community Development. Agricultural and Industrial Board (RG 76)

Photographs and negatives made or collected by staff members of the Agricultural and Industrial Board. Though there are a few photographs from as early as 1938, nearly all of the images in this series date from 1958 to 1963. Except for a few color negatives, the entire collection of approximately 3100 images is in black and white. Many of the items are identified. General subject categories of the images include historic buildings, battlefield sites, recreation and recreational spots, government buildings, towns and cities, educational institutions, industries, infrastructure and transportation, attractions, and special events, all intended to promote a positive image of Mississippi to tourists or industrialists who might wish to visit the state. Prints do not exist for all of the negatives, nor are there negatives for all of the prints. Because of this, researchers will want to examine the negatives in this collection as well. The lists of photograph subjects below are by no means complete; they are intended only as a starting point for researchers and are merely representative of the kinds of images found in this collection.
