Series 1626: CMPDD Aerial Photographs, Maps, and Drawings. 1964-1979; n.d.
Planning and Development Districts (RG 114).
Aerial photographs, photo indexes, and some related maps and drawings covering the Jackson Metropolitan Area. One set of photographs was produced as a part of the 1964 Jackson Urbanized Area Transportation Study (JUATS). The accompanying aerial photograph mosaic contains sheets 1, 3, 4, 6, 8, 10, and 11. Another set of photographs was produced in 1970 by a cooperative group called the Council of Governments (COG), formed by the counties of Hinds, Madison and Rankin. The accompanying index includes both counties and towns within the tri-county region. A third set of photographs identified only as JP ("Jackson Planning") was produced in 1974.
Also included in this series are various maps used in planning activities. One group of maps, titled “Jackson, JUATS General street maps”, are compatible with the JUATS aerial photographic mosaic, but contains all 12 sheets. A second group of maps is marked "HPS-1 (30) Acct. 5-B." These maps are of the Jackson-Clinton metropolitan area. See page 4 of this finding aid for a detailed list. There is no accompanying index for these maps. Other miscellaneous items are listed below.
These three projects were undertaken as cooperative regional ventures before the Central Mississippi Planning and Development District (CMPDD) was established in 1971. However, upon the formation of the CMPDD, the photographs and maps of the projects were transferred to the CMPDD office as part of its permanent records, and used by that office in its design and development activities.
