Series 1647: Tripps Crossing Veterans Subdivision Records. 1946-1949.
Building Commission (RG 43).

Requests for applications, applications, affadavits, and related correspondence and records from the sale of lots from the Tripps Crossing subdivision to veterans. The individual applications include verification of the applicants veteran status, most often a certified photostatic copy of the veterans discharge certificate and record of service form.

Historical Note

In 1946, the State Legislature authorized the Mineral Lease Commission to transfer title to approximately 153 acres in the vicinity of North State Street and Northside Drive (then Tripps Crossing Road) to the Building Commission for development into residential subdivision with lots for sale to World War II veterans (Laws, Chapter 484, 1946, amended by Chapter 501, 1948). The Building Commission advertised in local newspapers for veterans to request applications for a drawing for the lots. The applications that were received and accepted as eligible for the intial drawing were grouped into two categories. The first category of eligible veterans drew for lots on Sep. 22, 1948. Those lots not chosen or chosen and not purchased were then offered to the second priority group via a drawing on Nov. 23, 1948. When all the lots were not sold, more veterans were able to apply for a third drawing held on February 10, 1949. After that drawing, unsold lots were offered to any other veteran and then to the general public.
