Applications from companies for advanced technology tax benefits (exemptions and credits), under the provisions of the Mississippi Advanced Technology Initiative Act (chap. 381, Laws of 1984; repealed by § 34, chap. 524, Laws of 1989). The act provided tax incentives and financial assistance to advanced technology businesses over a five year period. The tax incentives included exemption from sales taxes and an income tax credit of $1,000.00 per high technology employee.
Each application contains, at a minimum, the application from the company and the board minute extract approving or denying the application. Other background information or correspondence may also be included. The files are arranged by application number (AT-#). Some of the companies taking advantage of this act were: First Chemical Corp., Dover Elevators, Choctaw Electronics, Baldwin Aircraft, Borg-Warner Chemicals, Weyerhauser, Hughes Aircraft, and Bryan Foods.
