Five (5) 1/2 inch videotapes of footage shot for an episode of the Mississippi ETV series "Mississippi Roads" which featured a segment on Charlotte Capers, prominent Mississippian and Director of the Department of Archives and History from 1955 to 1969. The total running time of all five tapes is approximately two hundred twenty-six (226) minutes. The first four videotapes include footage filmed for the Capers segment, most of which was not actually aired. The fifth videotape is a copy of the actual episode of "Mississippi Roads" with the segment on Charlotte Capers, which originally aired on October 31, 1989.
Videotape #1 includes images of still photographs of people and events surrounding Capers' life and footage of Capers sorting through and discussing articles found in her collection at the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. This tape also contains four (4) minutes of footage from the Great Chunky River Raft Race.
Videotape #2 contains live footage of Capers, Eudora Welty, Ann Morrison, Patti Black, and Chrissy Wilson at a Jackson restaurant; an interview with Capers, discussing various events in her life; an informal interview on Capers' patio; and footage of Capers doing research in her library at home.
Videotape #3 contains an interview with former Governor William Winter about Capers, still photographs of important people and events from Capers' life, and more footage of an interview with Capers in her home.
Videotape #4 contains an interview with Eudora Welty at her home in Jackson, in which she discusses her long friendship with Capers. More still photographs from Capers' life are displayed. Also included is aerial footage from the Indian Mound located in Pocahontas, Mississippi.
Videotape #5 is the actual episode of "Mississippi Roads" containing the segment on Charlotte Capers. Included are still photographs of people and events in Capers' life and interviews with William Winter and Eudora Welty. The major portion of the segment is an interview with Capers. The rest of the tape contains segments on Coastal Kilts in Biloxi, Mississippi and a country restaurant in Alligator, Mississippi.
