Series 1776: Investigations, Hearings and Impeachments. 1836-1978.
Legislature (RG 47).
Records of investigations, hearings, and impeachment proceedings conducted by various committees (House, Senate, Joint, Special, Investigating). Among these records are the following:
- Transcripts of hearings and proceedings.
- Transcripts of interrogatories.
- Related documents used in investigations (legal briefs and sworn statements, witness testimonies).
- Minutes of meetings.
- Committee member attendance records.
- Witness Docket.
Researchers should note that material on the investigation of Thomas W. Cardoza has been transcribed and photocopied due to the fragility of the originals. Similarly, although the original, handwritten transcript of the testimony in the impeachment trial of Governor Adelbert Ames is restricted due to its fragility, a published copy of the testimony is available through MDAH’s online catalogue.
