Series 1810: Communications Division Press Releases and Clipbooks. 1985-1995.

Press releases and newspaper and magazine clippings (sometimes annotated) pertaining to DECD activities and Mississippi in general. The press releases and announcements to the media reflect the vigorous efforts of the department to publicize its activities and the state’s economic growth and opportunities. Included in the press releases are news items concerning: new businesses (groundbreakings, facility construction, employees to be hired), business leaders and awards, training seminars, foreign trade missions and visiting trade delegations, industry statistics, film-making activities (auditions, locations of film crews, prominent directors), job advancements, grants and funding for special projects, and tourism activities. The press release files sometimes include letters, memos, surveys, speeches and magazine articles related to activities being publicized.

The 1987 clipbook consists of photocopied newspaper clippings and magazine articles covering the period from April through December of that year, and its emphasis is on tourism.

The clipbooks dating from 1993-1995 are booklets that were produced weekly for circulation among the DECD staff containing that week’s publicity as well as news items (the national economy, editorials, labor relations and conditions) related to economic issues. The clippings were drawn from both Mississippi newspapers and business journals and from other state and national newspapers and journals.
