      Lists of licensed/certified Mississippi teachers. The series consists of handwritten license registers, fee lists and indices, in the form of bound volumes, binders and computer printouts, of teachers licensed/certified in accordance with the requirements of the State Department of Education. The content of the registers varies and includes the following types of information: names of graduates qualified for professional licenses; name of licensee; license number and date of issue; duration of license; place of issue; type of license issued; whether license is a renewal; and fees paid and name of payer. Test scores are included in some of the earlier registers. In addition, there are also several undated accompanying license indexes. The computer printouts consist of lists of certified teachers, retirees and those purged from the listing and include the following types of information: name; social security numbers; age; sex; race; birth date; certificate number; duration of certificate; and academic level achieved.

      The records are arranged chronologically. The bound volumes and binders primarily comprise alphabetized lists of licensees, although some are arranged by year or the date of the Board of Education meeting in which the license was issued. The separate fee books or fee segments within the registers are arranged chronologically. Some of the earlier bound volumes have become detached and consist of loose pages. The oversize binders have been dismantled with pages foldered and boxed. The more recent computer-generated certification lists are arranged by certification number or social security number.
