Series 1860: Historic Properties Bond Bill Applications. 1995.
Dept. of Archives and History (RG 31). Historic Preservation (SG 4).
Grant applications (with supporting documents) for funds provided by the Statewide Historic and Cultural Properties Development Grant Program, as provided in House Bill No. 1502, or the “Historic Properties Bond Bill.” This legislative act created a special fund within the State Treasury for the acquisition, preservation, restoration, renovation, repair, and/or interpretation of certain historic sites and properties within the state. Though the Department of Finance and Administration had the responsibility of actually maintaining the fund, expenditures from it were based on recommendations from the Board of Trustees of the Department of Archives and History (General Laws of the State of Mississippi 1993, Chapter 564). The files in this series were maintained by Department Director Elbert R. Hilliard; for a more extensive set of files on the same topic, see those maintained by the Historic Properties Bond Bill grant coordinator in Series 174.
The grant applications/proposals for funds typically contain the project name and location, a brief project description, name or title of applicant, total state funds requested, and sources of matching funds. Supporting documents may consist of vitae and resumes of project directors, budget breakdowns, letters of certification and recommendation, floor plans, photographs, published articles, flyers, or other promotional items.
Folders are arranged alphabetically by county and therein alphabetically by project name.
