Series 1902: Legal Files. 1990-1999.
Governor’s Office (RG 27). Administration of Daniel Kirkwood Fordice.

Subject files maintained by the Legal Division of the Fordice Administration. Noteworthy topics include the Department of Corrections, requests for executive clemency from inmates or their families, the Ayers Case (a long-running lawsuit against the state involving desegregation in higher education), tobacco litigation, tidelands leases (for gambling casinos), elections and voting (particularly the controversial “motor voter” law), and various state agencies, boards and commissions.

Arrangement is alphabetical by topic. Certain oversize items have been relocated to a larger box, and audiovisual items have been relocated as well. Several of the boxes are an accretion to this series, added years after these records were initially processed. Therefore, those boxes (28628, 28629, and 28630) fall outside of the general alphabetical arrangement of these files.
