Files on a wide variety of health-related topics. Information on the subjects of health insurance, welfare reform, J-1 visa waivers for foreign physicians, and health-related legislation is particularly extensive.
Arrangement is alphabetical by topic, though folder titles are idiosyncratic and certain large topics have been boxed together, irrespective of alphabetical arrangement. Legislation files are sub-arranged chronologically. Three of the boxes (28640, 28641, and 28011) are an accretion to this series, added years after these records were initially processed. Therefore, they fall outside of the general alphabetical arrangement of these files.
Researchers should be aware that there is a great deal of overlap between subjects. For example, most of the information on “child care” can be found filed under “C” for that topic, but there might be other information on that subject filed under “legislation” or “welfare reform.”
ACCESS NOTE
Due to the inclusion of privacy-sensitive information, access to the J-1 Visa files in this series is limited. For researchers interested in viewing the files, two types of searches can be done through public order: 1) a search for an individual’s information upon verification of Social Security number, or 2) a search for unrestricted information in the records. For use and/or duplication of audiovisual materials in this series, an appointment must be made with an Image and Sound Archivist to determine availability of equipment. |
