Series 2090: The Sanatorium Pulse Newsletters. 1948-1963.
Health Institutions (RG 56). Mississippi State Tuberculosis Sanatorium.

Microfilmed issues of a monthly newsletter produced by the patients of the Mississippi State Tuberculosis Sanatorium. Issues typically contained health-related articles and newsworthy events concerning patients, personnel, and events at the Sanatorium, as well as local advertising. The first issue was an 8 ½” x 11” mimeographed publication that actually had no name -- a contest was held to determine the title of the newsletter, with The Sanatorium Pulse being the winner. By its second issue, the Pulse had expanded into a quite professional newspaper-sized typeset publication, complete with photographs. Issues ranged from six to ten pages in length. Publication of the newsletter was suspended in 1957 due to lack of funds, though it was revived in 1964 and continued in existence practically until the Sanatorium closed its doors in 1976. This series contains a run of the paper from 1948 to 1957, arranged chronologically, and one issue each from 1959 and 1963, respectively.
