      Six bound volumes which record admissions, discharges, and other information pertaining to patients at the East Mississippi State Hospital in Meridian. These volumes are described in individual detail below. Titles of volumes vary, and do not necessarily reflect actual contents.

• Registry of Admissions, East Mississippi Insane Asylum. 1885-1926. A register of patients with personal and treatment information. Entries date between January 6, 1885 – May 25, 1926, patient numbers 1 – 5746. Patient entries in this volume include name, date of admission, age, sex, marital status, occupation, form of mental disorder, date of discharge, result of treatment, and other information. Entries are arranged chronologically in patient number order.

• Hospital Record of Patients: Admissions, Discharges and Deaths. 1913-1930. A register listing daily patient admissions, discharges and deaths. Entries date between July 1, 1913 – April 30, 1930, patient numbers 3226 – 6755. This register differs from the earliest register in that its entries are much more sparse. If a patient was discharged, the length of hospital stay is noted. If a patient died, the cause of death is noted. Occasionally, the cause of a patient’s admission or discharge is also recorded. Running daily totals of the number of patients in the hospital, by gender, are kept. Entries are arranged chronologically. Note that there is some overlap between this volume and the previous register
• Patient Record Book, East Mississippi State Hospital. 1930-1951. This volume is similar to the one preceding it, both in contents and arrangement. Entries date between May 1, 1930 – June 30, 1951, patient numbers 6756 – 12132.
• Index, 1885-1938. This untitled volume is a partial index to the preceding registers. It is arranged alphabetically by last name of patient, and records the patient number. Patient numbers 1 through 9136 are recorded. If the name of a patient is known, this index may be used to find that patient’s number, and the patient number may be used to find the entry for that patient in one of the record books above. These entries only refer to patients admitted between January 6, 1885, and September 26, 1938, so for patients admitted after September 26, 1938, researchers must simply examine all entries in the appropriate register.
• Register of Admissions, Discharges and Deaths [Men]. 1924-1954. A register listing daily male patient admissions, discharges and deaths. Entries date between August 31, 1924 – January 18, 1954. No patient numbers are recorded. Gives a daily running total number of male patients in the hospital. Arranged chronologically.
• Register of Admissions, Discharges and Deaths [Women]. 1925-1966. A register listing daily female patient admissions, discharges and deaths. Entries date between January 1, 1925 – November 30, 1966. No patient numbers are recorded. Gives a daily running total number of female patients in the hospital. Arranged chronologically.
