Series 2160: Dental (Mouth Hygiene) Services Files. 1933-1943; 1949-53.
Health, Dept. of (RG 51).
Files containing rosters of dentists practicing throughout the state, and dental hygiene reports. The rosters are annotated lists of dentists, by county, with such annotations “Army,” “Navy,” “Dead,” “Not Practicing,” dates and other similar remarks. The reports (one annual report for 1939-1940, otherwise monthly) are from dental hygienists during a period of time when mouth hygiene and dental care were especially emphasized by the State Board of Health in schools and counties of the state. The reports summarize various activities: presentations, examinations, community meetings and clinics, school visitations and some dental treatments (fluoride applications in particular). The collection of monthly reports in this series is fairly incomplete, with one to ten reports for each year from 1949-1953.
Two miscellaneous items are also included in these records:
- An announcement (1949) for a sodium fluoride application demonstration
- A program for the Miss. Dental Association Mouth Health Luncheon held in Gulfport in 1939
