Series 2167: Division Director’s Files. 1979-2000.
Dept. of Archives and History (RG 31). Special Projects (SG 9).

Office files maintained by Dr. Patricia Kay Galloway, Director of the Special Projects Division of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History from 1983 to 2000. As Dr. Galloway was originally hired by the Department in 1979 as an editor and administrative assistant, some of these files relate to her job duties in those positions as well. Though Dr. Galloway was chiefly known to the scholarly community as an ethnohistorian with an archaeological background, she also had a great deal of computing experience and led the Department’s automation efforts from 1980 onward.

These files are, in general, alphabetically arranged by subject. Dr. Galloway’s involvement with certain topics (such as archaeology, and modern Mississippi Choctaw Indians’ efforts at preserving their culture) constituted such a large part of her professional and scholarly activities that such topics have been filed together, rather than in alphabetical order with the other files.
