Health, Dept. of (RG 51).
A small group of files and photographs pertaining to flooding and flood-related health activities:
- Flood activities in 1927 file
- A Report of preliminary sanitary surveys of labor camps maintained by contractors engaged in Mississippi flood control operations conducted by a U.S. Public Health Service Sanitary Engineer in 1929 and 1930. By visiting as many camps as possible, data was gathered about “water supply, sewage, garbage, refuse and manure disposal, storage and handling of food…” (page 1 of report). The report includes photographs of housing and living conditions in the camps; however, of the 36 photographs, only two are of Mississippi camps.
- The flood emergency of 1937 and Red Cross assistance file
- A panoramic photograph (sepia-toned, 10 x 40) of the tent camp set up in Vicksburg possibly for the 1927 flood victims.
