      Incoming and outgoing correspondence of J. Sloan Vandiver, State Superintendent of Education, 1936-1945, as well as correspondence of other staff within his administration. Mr. Vandiver's correspondence includes an appointments file for 1945. Between 1936 and 1939, the files include correspondence of J.M. Bryant, Assistant State Superintendent of Education, and W.G. Eckles, Director of the School Building Service. Correspondence of Mr. Eckles during his term as president of the National Council of Schoolhouse Construction is included as well.

      Correspondence for 1943 is primarily that of Mr. Vandiver; other correspondencts for 1941-1942 and 1944-1945 include Knox M. Broom, State Supervisor of Agricultural High Schools and Junior Colleges (1941); H.M. Coen, Assistant State Superintendent of Education (1942); Ray H. Martin and R.W. Griffith, both Assistant State Superintendents of Education (1944); and Winnie Buckels, Director of Narcotics Education (1945).
