Series 2373: Slave Legislation Records. 1819-1839; 1852.
Legislature (RG 47)

      A group of documents pertaining to slavery issues, consisting primarily of legislative bills drafted or requested regarding the emancipation of particular slaves (as requested by the owner); regulations to be followed in the sale, ownership, and behavior of slaves; and taxation rates on sales of slaves. There is a small group of reports and resolutions from other states (with Mississippi’s response sometimes included) regarding slavery and/or the abolition of slavery and subsequent emancipation, particularly in light of state sovereignty (state’s rights).
