Operational files of state directed missions conducted by units of the Mississippi National Guard at the direction of the Governor to respond to natural or manufactured disasters, law enforcement assistance requests, civil unrest, and other emergencies. The information in this finding aid is organized alphabetically.

Some of the more significant missions were:
Operation Chlorine which was ordered in 1962 to provide evacuation and security assistance in Natchez and the surrounding area during the raising of chlorine tanks from a barge sunk in the Mississippi River.
Operation Wet Blanket which was ordered in 1965 to provide additional security in Natchez in anticipation of civil unrest associated with the Civil Rights movement.
