      Files of the International Development Division of the Mississippi Department of Economic and Community Development (MDECD). These documents provide a look into the extensive efforts undertaken by state officials to convince certain companies (“target companies”) headquartered in other countries to relocate or expand their industries into Mississippi. The files include such materials as correspondence, reports, and details of the special needs of the target companies. For these target companies, MDECD provided information on tax and other economic incentives, climate data, site maps, state environmental regulations, labor laws, geochemical analysis of proposed sites, comparison of Mississippi with other expansion sites being considered, educational opportunities for the workforce, and content analysis of resources needed by target companies in their manufacturing processes.
