      Files concerning the siting of a hazardous waste facility in Mississippi in the early 1990s. Included are meeting files of the Hazardous Waste Technical Siting Committee, files on various hazardous waste disposal/storage companies, and a number of subject files on various environmental and hazardous waste topics. These files were created and maintained by Kenneth Calvin, a project manager in the Corporate Development Division of the Mississippi Department of Economic and Community Development (MDECD). Calvin represented MDECD on environmental issues, often sitting in for MDECD’s executive director during Siting Committee meetings. Calvin also attended environmental seminars and corresponded with various hazardous waste companies that were interested in doing business in Mississippi.

      The Hazardous Waste Technical Siting Committee meeting files are arranged chronologically. In addition to meeting agendas and minutes, they often contain such supplementary materials as correspondence, reports, newspaper clippings, maps, notes, etc. The files on hazardous waste companies are arranged alphabetically, and they typically contain promotional materials about the company as well as correspondence between Kenneth Calvin and company personnel. Certain oversize items have been relocated to a separate box.
