      Correspondence, subject files and school district conservatorship and probation records from the administration of Deputy Superintendent of Education R.D. Harris, the state’s first African-American superintendent, who served from 1992-2002. The bulk of the records are correspondence and memoranda, including correspondence with the Mississippi Conference of the NAACP and the Federal Office for Civil Rights. Reports, school board meeting minutes, compilations of statistics, court documents, legislation, mission statements, and pamphlets are also present. Records from school districts placed under state conservatorship and/or on academic or financial probation, specifically North Panola, Oktibbeha, Quitman and Tunica county school districts, are found in boxes 30399 and 30400. The records are arranged alphabetically.
