Series 2787: Business Law Reform Task Force Files. 1986-1989.
Secretary of State. Securities Division (RG 28)

Correspondence, draft legislation and copies of model laws from the Business Law Reform Task Force, which was assembled by Secretary of State Dick Molpus in 1986 to research and draft changes to Mississippi’s business laws. Made up of twenty-nine members including attorneys, accountants and legislators, the group was responsible for significant changes to those laws, including the Mississippi Non-Profit Corporation Act, the Mississippi Limited Partnership Act, and modifications to various securities statutes. Several constitutional constraints on business, including the 99-year restriction on the life of corporations and the requirement that corporate charters be filed with the chancery clerk of the county where the corporation was headquartered, were also removed. The files contain correspondence related to the work of the task force and numerous draft bills and model laws.
