      Correspondence, reports, statistics, surveys and other papers dating from the period when Haley Barbour was beginning to explore the possibility of running for Governor of Mississippi up until just after his election in November of 2003. The series is divided into four main categories: correspondence; call sheets and calls; Barbour, Griffith & Rogers files; and topical files. There is some crossover among these categories – for example, correspondence may also be found among the topical files – but this was the original arrangement of these files, so that arrangement has been retained. The files reflect Barbour’s “testing the waters” for a gubernatorial run, his cultivating supporters towards that end, and his making himself familiar with the major political issues in the state.
