      A collection of receipts and vouchers for funds devoted to internal improvements in the state. During the 1820s, the internal improvement fund paid for the services of those involved in the clearing of rivers (such as the Pearl River and Big Black River), and the construction of roads and bridges throughout the state. Also of interest are the vouchers for internal improvement lands sold, which contain the names of the purchasers of the lands, and some of which contain the section, township, and range of the lands bought. The third group of documents relate to the two percent and three percent funds. A federal internal improvements program known as the three percent fund allowed for states to sell public lands and use the revenue to finance construction projects such as roads and canals within their borders. A separate two percent fund allowed for states like Mississippi to use monies to improve access from neighboring states. All items are arranged chronologically by year.
