Series 2917: Mississippi De Soto Trail Commission Files. 1989-1991; Not Dated.
Dept. of Archives and History (RG 31). State Historical Museum (SG 8).

This series consists of information regarding the Mississippi De Soto Trail Commission: a gathering of anthropologists, archaeologists, and historians in the Southeastern United States who, in June of 1987, were interested in a national De Soto trial which would roughly mark the path of Hernando De Soto’s expeditions and his encounters. The information, which makes up this series, was found amongst the office files of Van R. Burnham, Jr., a former member of MDAH’s Board of Trustees. Due to the importance of the MS De Soto Trail, it was thought best to separate the information into its own series.

The information included consists of, but is not limited to: Membership listings, project descriptions and proposals, feasibility studies, minutes, and an agenda. There is no arrangement at this time. When more information is acquired, the series will become better organized.
