      This series is made up of office files collected from the desk of Van Robinson Burnham, Jr. during his time as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History from 1988-2003 (material in the series at this time both predates and does not go as far as the date range of service). The material collected in these files includes: correspondence, articles, newsletters, press releases, news clippings, and a clip of an annual report.

      It is important to note that Burnham’s office files also included a significant amount of information on the Mississippi De Soto Trail Commission: a gathering of anthropologists, archaeologists, and historians in the Southeastern United States who, in June of 1987, were interested in a national De Soto trial which would roughly mark the path of Hernando De Soto’s expeditions and his encounters. This information was put into its own series due to its importance. Some of the correspondence may include additional information about the Trail Commission project. Arrangement of this series is by type of document and thereunder chronological.
