Files concerning requests for executive clemency (pardons, commutations of sentence, etc.). Most of the files are arranged alphabetically by last name of offender, though the series also contains a set of miscellaneous files on clemency matters which are grouped separately. File contents vary, though they typically contain applications for clemency, inmate records, correspondence, internal memos, and notes.
ACCESS NOTE Due to the inclusion of privacy-sensitive information, this series is restricted from public access. For researchers interested in viewing these files, there are two options: 1) a file which contains no restricted information will be made available to the researcher, or 2) a file with redacted information will be made available to the researcher. In either case, the file(s) will have to be screened by an archivist first, so there will be a waiting period, the length of which will depend upon staff availability and the number of files requested. Therefore, researchers are strongly encouraged to contact the Archives in writing before undertaking any research into these records. |
