Series 618: Private Land Claims Research Material. 1984.
Dept. of Archives and History (RG 31). Special Projects (SG 9).
Research materials on private land claims in Mississippi during the years 1813-1848, gathered from the National Archives in Washington, D. C. by Patricia K. Galloway, Special Projects Officer of the Mississippi Department of Archives and History. The materials are in photocopy and microfilm format with an accompanying documentary essay (call # 016.3333 G174p), and are applicable only to lands in south Mississippi which were once under the colonial jurisdiction of France, Spain and Great Britain. Most, if not all, of these lands are located in the present-day counties of Hancock, Harrison, and Jackson. Related material gathered by Dr. Galloway in the course of her research may be found in Series 1251 in the "Land Claims - Tidelands Initiative" files.
The photocopies and microfilm were reproduced by National Archives staff at Galloway's request. Microfilm rolls are self-serve in the Media Room. The box must be requested for delivery to the Archival Reading Room.
