Collection Summary: A list showing the number of cases decided in the superior courts of law and equity for the counties of Adams, Claiborne, Amite, Franklin, and Warren since the establishment of said courts. Lists the party’s names, time of filing bills, and the terms when the cases were decided. The cases date from 1802 to 1827.

Record Group History: According to Article V of the Constitution of 1817, the judicial power of the state was vested in one supreme court and such superior and inferior courts of law and equity as the legislature may from time to time direct. The Constitution of 1832 changed the supreme court to the High Court of Errors and Appeals which consisted of three judges. Article V of the Constitution of 1868 changed the name of the state's highest court back to Supreme Court. The Constitution of 1890 maintained a supreme court of three judges but made the office elective.
