Collection Summary: Files maintained by various secretaries of state on the topics of voter registration, voting machines and voting in general. The series consists of two major components:  general files on voter registration and a more specific set of files on the National Voter Registration Act of 1993. The general files consist of correspondence, statistics, clippings and other materials on the voter registration process, voting machines, voting information for the armed forces, federal voter registration legislation, and mail-in voter registration.

            The National Voter Registration Act (NVRA) files consist of records compiled during the administrations of Secretaries of State Dick Molpus and Eric Clark.  Popularly termed the “Motor Voter Law, “ the National Voter Registration Act was signed into law in 1993 and took effect on January 1, 1995,  The files include copies of House and Senate bills, clippings, correspondence, mail-in registration information, absentee ballot research, and statewide/nationwide surveys.  Arrangement is alphabetical by folder title.  Boxed separately are NVRA quarterly reports for 1995-1999, though the reports appear to be incomplete.
