Series 123: Miscellaneous Privilege Tax Records. 1934-1957. Tax Commission (RG 45)
A collection of various tax records consisting mainly of privilege tax notices and licenses. The county privilege tax notices include those for retail beer sales in Hinds County following the end of Prohibition. The bulk of the delinquent tax notices are for automobiles and include the owner’s name, and the year, make, and model of the car. The municipal privilege tax licenses and notices are mainly for local retail stores and businesses, but also includes larger entities such as Sears & Roebuck. Likewise, the state privilege tax notices offer information on local businesses such as florists, machinery dealers, and saw mills.
