Collection Summary: This collection contains the minutes of the Board of Pharmacy and covers a range of topics from regular business before the board including license suspensions, revocations, and renewals, to more mundane activities such as purchasing furniture or the proceedings of travel for conferences. Lastly, this collection contains four cubic feet of exhibit materials for administrative hearings in which the licenses of pharmacists were suspended or revoked due to violations of the rules and regulations of the board.

Record Group History: In 1920, the Board of Pharmacy was created by Legislative action. The seven members who make up the Board of Pharmacy are appointed by the governor. The members of the board self-elect an executive director. This board oversees the regulation of the pharmaceutical industry and practices of the profession within the states as well as the distribution of prescription drugs within Mississippi. The board was formed for the important function of legitimizing the pharmaceutical industry and regulating the profession to avoid abuse and to protect citizens from being taken advantage of by unqualified individuals.
