Series 21: Enumeration of Educable Children. 1908-1957; 1965. Education, Dept. of (RG 50).

Lists of students prepared by the Superintendent of Education in each county and filed with the state Department of Education. The lists are arranged by school within the county and thereunder by parents' name. In addition to parents' and students' names, information on the lists includes age, sex, reason for withdrawal from school, status in school, whether the student was subject to the compulsory attendance law, and a general address. Students between the ages of 6 and 20 were included in these lists. Each report usually includes a recapitulation sheet that lists the names of schools within the county and numbers of students at each school.

Microfilm must be used when available in lieu of the original records. Microfilm rolls are in the Media Room and are self-serve. Boxed records must be requested for viewing in the Archival Reading Room. Only one year of enumerations will be made available at a time. These records are also available digitally through the department’s online catalog.
