Collection Summary:  These files consist of material from the county boards of supervisors detailing the redistricting of the county supervisor districts, justice court districts, school districts, and voting precincts after the release of the 1980, 1990 and 2000 Federal censuses.  Included are minutes from boards of supervisors meetings, annotated maps, and copies of court cases pertaining to challenges to county redistricting plans.  Also included are some submissions to the Federal Department of Justice and DOJ pre-clearance response letters.  There are also copies of the statewide reapportionment maps for the state Senate and House of Representatives from the 1990 redistricting.  Not all counties are represented in any redistricting set.  There are lists in the folder “1990s: Redistricting Files” that indicate which counties did not submit redistricting information as well as the size of the maps, if available, associated with each county’s submission. For the 2000s redistricting, counties which did not submit redistricting information are indicated by the “This folder was received empty” form.  Oversized maps are indicated by a relocation form giving the box number to which the maps were relocated.
