Collection Summary: This series originated with the Office of Pollution Control. It documents the procedures implemented in order to ensure that any construction project that would create contaminated wastewater would have a collection and disposal plan in place so any wastewater would not wash into lakes, streams, rivers, groundwater, or the Gulf of Mexico during weather episodes. Construction projects include those by Federal, State, County, and Municipal governments as well as corporations and land developers.  Included with this series are the Certificates of Permit Coverage issued under State of Mississippi’s Storm Water Construction General NPDES Permit in accordance with the provisions of the Mississippi Air & Water Pollution Control Law (Sections 49-17-1, Mississippi Code of 1972).  Entities would have to submit notices of intent and if accepted, were granted the Certificate of Permit coverage. Changes were made to permit applications as needed. The documents include descriptions of the type of job, the dimensions of the project, projected starting date and estimated date of completion. Documents include project notices, maps, forms, blue prints, certificates of permit, correspondence, and photographs. This series is arranged alphabetically by county and then by the entity completing the construction project. A large bulk of records are from DeSoto, Hinds and Harrison Counties. Folders for these counties are arranged alphabetically by municipality.
