Handwritten and typescript copies of documents related to sixteenth section and lieu lands collected by the State Planning Commission. The Commission was created by Senate Bill 551, Chapter 189, Laws of Mississippi, 1936, and was responsible for preparing a state master plan for the long term development of major state improvements. The Commission's duties included the preparation of maps and surveys and any other information the governor, legislature, or other agencies needed for planning studies. The material in this collection is part of the Commission’s work in creating a survey of sixteenth section school lands up to that point in time. Only seven counties out of all of the counties surveyed are represented in the collection.
