Series 324: Pay Warrant Journals. 1848-1917. Auditor (RG 29)
Twenty nine ledgers recording the payment of services to the state including officials’ salaries and other routine expenses. Each entry in the ledgers contains the following information: county, warrant number, person receiving warrant, purpose, and amount. Many aspects of state government are represented in the warrants, including: witness and juror certificates; salaries for judges, district attorneys, bailiffs, constables, sheriffs, and other elected officials and their clerks; penitentiary and jailer expenses; public printing and costs associated with distributing laws and journals; revolutionary war pensions; commissions for assessing taxes; and other miscellaneous expenses such as stationery or coal to heat offices. The ledgers are arranged by date.
