Series 332: Cotton Tax Reports & Receipts. 1830-1870. Auditor (RG 29).

Collection Summary: A collection of documents pertaining to Mississippi’s cotton economy that were sent to the office of the State Auditor. Almost all of the papers date from the years of the Civil War or Reconstruction. The bulk of the documents are petitions for advances on the cotton harvest and related receipts and warrants. Other documents include cotton tax reports by county and cotton tax receipts, reports of the number of bales of cotton raised per county for the years 1830 and 1849, and other assorted papers.
