Records (primarily dated 1863-1865) submitted to the Auditor’s office pertaining to the dispensing of whiskey and other alcoholic spirits. Most of these records consist of the “vouchers” or “certificates” (what we today would call prescriptions) written by physicians testifying to an individual’s need for a certain amount of whiskey for medicinal purposes. These items are grouped together and are arranged alphabetically by county. Other records in the collection include the bonds of county dispensers of alcohol, affidavits signed by the dispensers, and affidavits signed by individuals swearing that the dispensers meet the qualifications for the job.  There are also a number of quarterly reports which recapitulate whiskey dispensation for the counties, as well as a few items of correspondence, receipts, and other materials. All of these materials have been grouped together and arranged alphabetically by county. Oversize items have been boxed separately. Not all counties are represented in this series, and the amount of records varies from county to county.
