Collection Summary: This series includes surveys conducted to assess the physical accessibility of polling facilities in Mississippi.  The Help America Vote Act of 2002 (HAVA) mandated that all polling places be accessible to individuals with disabilities by January 1, 2006, and provided funding to states to help accomplish that end.  Survey information would influence the distribution of funds for improvements. Included with each survey is the “Certification Form for Polling Place Survey,” which provides location information for each precinct as well as the contact information and signature of the surveyor.  This series contains surveys from every county in the state except for Stone. Some counties include additional material, such as copies of letters sent by Secretary of State Eric Clark and Mary Troupe, Executive Director of the Coalition for Citizens with Disabilities; contracts with surveyors; notes about needed improvements; directions to polling locations; and photographs of polling places.  Surveys and related materials are arranged alphabetically by county.  This series also includes grant applications and supporting documentation for polling place improvements. The grant files are arranged alphabetically by county.
