Collection Summary: Documents and items relating to claims of payment owed to Mississippi soldiers who died or were killed in service. The material in the collection is comprised of a bound volume detailing the claims on record for deceased soldiers from the 1st to 46th Mississippi regiments. In addition to the bound volume, the collection contains documents covering certificates of payment of claims for deceased soldiers, accompanying final statements, affidavits, correspondence, applications for money due the deceased, lists of claims paid, and inventories of effects left at time of death. Also, included in the collection is a partial list of deceased Mississippi soldiers and includes information on each solider such as age, native state, profession, when and where they enlisted, location and cause of death, and special remarks. The amount of information available on each soldier will vary, however.
