Record Group History: The Mississippi Department of Archives and History was established by the state Legislature in 1902 to collect, preserve, and provide access to archival resources relevant to Mississippi. The Department is tasked with the management and preservation of official records from Mississippi’s state agencies as well as the collection of private material of historical value. Additionally, the department engages in historical preservation operations and oversees several museums and historical sites across the state.
